Spanish

At Old Buckenham High School, we see learning Spanish as an exciting journey—one that builds communication skills, cultural understanding, and confidence. As one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, Spanish opens up countless opportunities for travel, study, and connection.

Rooted in our values of Community, Ambition and Respect, our Spanish curriculum is designed to help every student thrive. We support learners in becoming comunicadores seguros (confident communicators) through a blend of engaging topics, structured grammar, and real-world language use. From ordering food in a café to describing future ambitions, students learn how to express themselves clearly and purposefully.

Our lessons are active, supportive and inclusive. We encourage students to speak and listen from the start, while also building strong reading and writing foundations. As they progress, they grow not only in their language skills but in independence, creativity, and critical thinking.

Spanish at OBHS is also a window into the rich and diverse cultures of the hispanohablante (Spanish-speaking) world. Students explore traditions, festivals, music and daily life in countries from Spain to Latin America—developing empathy, global awareness and curiosity.
