Our Houses
Welcome to the House System at Old Buckenham High School
At Old Buckenham, every student belongs to one of our four Houses — a team, a community, and a place where you can grow, lead, and shine.
When you join our school, you're placed into one of the following Houses:
Red House – Team Rashford
Ambassador: Marcus Rashford
Theme: Determination & Community
Marcus Rashford is a professional footballer and campaigner who has used his platform to fight child hunger, promote literacy, and speak out on social justice. Red House stands for teamwork, resilience, and using your voice for good.
- Compete for Red in sports and creative competitions
- Stand up for what’s right and support those in need
- Be a reading role model and a strong voice in the school community
Green House – Team Malala
Ambassador: Malala Yousafzai
Theme: Courage & Education
Malala is a Nobel Peace Prize winner who stood up for girls’ right to education, even after surviving an attack from the Taliban. She now leads global conversations about equality and access to learning. Green House celebrates bravery, persistence, and love of learning.
- Compete for Green with your knowledge and voice
- Help promote reading, lead in the library, or become a Literacy Assistant
- Speak up and stand tall for education and equality
Yellow House – Team Attenborough
Ambassador: Sir David Attenborough
Theme: Curiosity & Responsibility
Sir David Attenborough is a legendary broadcaster and naturalist who has dedicated his life to sharing the wonders of the natural world — and protecting it. Yellow House is all about asking questions, caring for the planet, and thinking big.
- Represent Yellow in science, art, and sustainability challenges
- Take part in eco projects or campaigns
- Let your curiosity drive your learning — and help others do the same
Blue House – Team Turing
Ambassador: Alan Turing
Theme: Innovation & Integrity
Alan Turing was a pioneering mathematician and codebreaker who helped defeat the Nazis in World War II. He also laid the foundations for modern computing. Blue House represents intelligence, quiet strength, and making a difference through ideas.
- Compete for Blue in maths and problem-solving events
- Join a STEM club or become a Numeracy Assistant
- Embrace your inner inventor and help others discover their talents
Mentoring & Support
In each House, older students mentor younger students — offering help with reading, maths, or just being someone to talk to. You might be paired with:
- A Literacy Assistant to support your reading
- A Numeracy Assistant to help with maths
- A Peer Mentor from your House who’s been in your shoes
This is your chance to grow — and later, give back.
Competitions & House Points
Throughout the year, the Houses compete in:
- Sports Day events
- Music and talent showcases
- Academic challenges
- Creative contests
- Fundraising and community activities
