Head Student's Welcome

Louisa

My name is Louisa, and I am honoured to be Head Student at OBHS this year. When I first joined the school, I never could have imagined being in this position. I have faced my own challenges with confidence and anxiety, but through the constant encouragement and support of both staff and students, I’ve grown into someone who truly believes in their own potential. OBHS has provided me with the guidance, opportunities and reassurance I needed to discover strengths I didn’t know I had.

What sets OBHS apart is its unwavering commitment to every student’s personal and academic growth. The school’s core values of Respect, Ambition and Community are not just words, they are the foundation of everyday life here. Teachers go above and beyond to ensure each student feels seen, supported, and challenged to reach their best. The sense of community is genuine, creating an environment where everyone feels they belong and where achievements, big or small, are celebrated. Beyond the classroom, OBHS offers an exceptional range of opportunities, from sports teams and performing arts to leadership roles and international experiences. One highlight for me was taking part in a four week expedition to Borneo, an unforgettable experience that allowed me to contribute to conservation projects while developing independence, teamwork and confidence.

OBHS has shaped not only my education but also the person I have become. It is a school that recognises potential, nurtures ambition, and equips students with the confidence to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. I feel incredibly proud to represent a community that inspires every student to aim high, support one another and leave with the skills and self belief to thrive in the future.

Emily Duncan

My name is Emily Duncan, and I am one of the Head Students at Old Buckenham High School. We are a small, close-knit community with around 500 students — about half the national average — which allows teachers to know every pupil personally and support them throughout their education.

The staff are passionate about their subjects and dedicated to helping students reach their full potential, both academically and personally. The school’s unique open layout, with few indoor corridors, creates a calm and welcoming atmosphere that helps new students feel comfortable and confident.

Facilities such as a large sports field and a strong music and drama department offer plenty of opportunities for students to get involved and shine. Old Buckenham prides itself on fostering not only academic success but also qualities like resilience, ambition and respect, ensuring that every student leaves with lasting friendships, confidence and a sense of belonging.
