Head Student's Welcome

My name is Laura Murphy and I am one of the head students at Old Buckenham High School this year.  I felt very proud to be chosen as Head Student, and I am keen to work with both students, The Senior Senate and teachers to help our school community to thrive.

Whilst we are a small school, we have a strong sense of community which I have seen demonstrated each and every day since I joined school.  We ensure that everyone is made to feel valued and recognised whether in lessons or in activities away from the classroom and there are so many opportunities for pupils to be involved in that community whether that is through helping our peers, supporting the school on open evenings, representing the school externally or taking part in sports activities or school productions. There is always something that people can get involved in if they choose to.

OBHS strives to build ambitious new minds by challenging us wherever possible and establishing an environment where students feel they can try new experiences such as new sports, performing arts, and so much more!  The school encourages us to develop core skills which are a great foundation for our futures.  I personally have built on my confidence in many aspects of my school journey, and I know without the support and encouragement from peers and teachers I would probably not have been able to become head student.

OBHS is a truly brilliant school, one which I am proud to be a part of.  It has strong values, community, ambition, and respect. It is friendly and supportive and provides a strong foundation to help support students to achieve lasting success both whilst they are at our school and beyond.

My name is Tomas Sercombe, and I’m incredibly proud to represent my school as a Head Student.

When I first joined the school, I struggled to transition and found my anxiety dictating my life. With the support and positive attitude of the school, this soon changed. The community here felt like no other, and I’ve since become a student who is driven to achieve and excited to learn. Looking back, my Year 7 self wouldn’t believe where I am today. That’s why I’m so proud to be a Head Student at OBHS.

OBHS provides an amazing academic environment and also teaches you skills and builds relationships that last far beyond your time here. Being a smaller school allows us to have an education tailored to our individual needs, giving us the opportunity to learn, create and thrive.

Our school is built on three key characteristics: community, ambition, and respect. These are what make OBHS so special, alongside the countless opportunities available to every student.

This school hasn’t just educated me, it has shaped who I am. I’m confident that I will leave with the qualities and experiences I need to fulfil my potential and choose the right path for me.
