Supporting Your Wellbeing at OBHS
Your wellbeing matters – every single day.
At Old Buckenham High School, we believe that how you feel is just as important as what you learn. We all have mental health – just like we have physical health – and it can change from day to day. That’s completely normal.
Whether you're feeling confident or overwhelmed, we want you to know: you’re never alone. There are people here to help, listen, and support you.
Talking Helps
It’s okay not to feel okay.
Life can be tricky sometimes — stress, worries, friendships, family, schoolwork — it all adds up. Talking to someone can make a big difference.
You could talk to:
- A friend you trust
- A family member
- Your form tutor or any trusted adult in school
- Your Head of Key Stage or a member of the pastoral team
If something’s worrying you, don’t keep it to yourself. Talking about it is the first step to sorting it.
What Is Good Mental Health?
Good mental health doesn’t mean you’re happy all the time.
It means you're able to:
- Cope with challenges
- Talk about your feelings
- Bounce back from tough times
- Take care of yourself and others
Five Ways to Boost Your Wellbeing
Based on NHS guidance, here are 5 small actions that can make a big difference:
- Connect – Chat with someone, message a friend, or spend time with family.
- Be Active – Go for a walk, join a club, stretch, or dance it out.
- Take Notice – Pause and notice how you feel, or what’s around you.
- Learn Something New – Try a new skill or challenge your brain.
- Give – Help a friend, be kind, say thank you – small acts matter.
These don’t have to be big things – little changes can make a huge impact.
How to Look After Yourself
Sleep
Teens need 8–10 hours a night. Try to keep to the same bedtime and switch off screens an hour before bed.
Phone & Screen Time
Too much screen time, especially late at night, can affect your sleep and mood. Try putting your phone away for a bit – or give it to someone else while you focus.
Eat Well & Stay Hydrated
Food is fuel! Drinking enough water and eating balanced meals helps both your brain and body.
Be Kind (To Yourself & Others)
Being kind releases chemicals in your brain that make you feel good. And being kind to yourself is just as important.
Support at School
We’ve got loads of support in place if you’re struggling or need someone to talk to:
- Your Pastoral Team
- Careers advisor
- Access to hygiene items and period products at student reception
- Wellbeing leaflets and resources in the pastoral office
- And always, a trusted adult who will listen
Just speak to someone. We're here for you
Final Thought
Looking after your wellbeing doesn’t mean everything has to be perfect. It means taking small steps to feel a bit better, speaking up when you need help, and knowing that your feelings are valid.
Whether it’s a big worry or just a rough day — we’re here for you.
