French
At Old Buckenham High School, learning French opens doors to new cultures, new opportunities, and new ways of thinking. We believe that every student can become a confident communicator, and through French, they begin to see themselves as global citizens—curious, respectful and ready to engage with the wider world.
Rooted in our values of Community, Ambition and Respect, our French curriculum offers a rich and inspiring language-learning journey. From Year 7 onwards, students build their knowledge step by step—developing their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing while exploring the culture, traditions and diversity of the francophone world.
Lessons are interactive, engaging, and purposeful. Students learn how to express themselves in real-life contexts, discuss topics that matter to them, and understand how language shapes identity and connection. We place a strong focus on vocabulaire clé (key vocabulary) and grammaire (grammar) to give students a solid foundation and the confidence to apply their knowledge independently.
Our rural setting in Norfolk may feel far from Paris or Marseille, but in our French classrooms, students are encouraged to voyager avec l'esprit – to travel with their minds. Whether it’s through food, music, film, or conversation, French at OBHS is a window into a wider world—helping students broaden their horizons and take pride in learning something new.
