At Old Buckenham High School, Music is about much more than learning to play instruments or sing—it’s about creativity, self-expression, and the power of collaboration. Our Music curriculum encourages students to explore their musical talents, develop their technical skills, and deepen their understanding of the role music plays in culture and society.

Whether it’s through composing, performing, or listening to music, we strive to inspire a love of music that lasts a lifetime.
Through practical, hands-on experiences, students learn to play instruments, sing, and experiment with sound. We explore different genres—from classical to contemporary, pop to jazz—and students are encouraged to appreciate the diversity of global music. The classroom environment at OBHS is one where students feel confident to experiment, learn from each other, and take risks in their musical journey.
In addition to the core curriculum, our school offers a variety of extra-curricular opportunities for students to get involved in music, including school bands, choirs, and music ensembles. These groups allow students to build confidence, develop their skills further, and perform for the school community and beyond. Our school performances and events are a highlight of the year, where students have the chance to showcase their musical talents and celebrate the power of collective creativity.
