Physical Education

At Old Buckenham High School, Physical Education (PE) is an essential part of our students' development, both physically and mentally. PE at OBHS encourages a love of physical activity, supports well-being, and helps students develop the skills they need to stay healthy and active throughout their lives. Whether through our compulsory PE lessons or the optional GCSE PE course, we provide students with the tools to excel in a range of sports and physical activities.

Guided by our values of Community, Ambition, and Respect, PE at OBHS fosters a spirit of teamwork, resilience, and personal growth. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves, support their peers, and take pride in their achievements, all while developing important life skills like leadership, communication, and problem-solving.

Core Physical Education (Compulsory PE Lessons)

In our compulsory PE lessons, students engage in a wide variety of physical activities designed to promote fitness, skill development, and a lifelong commitment to physical health. From team sports like football, netball, and rugby to individual sports such as athletics, badminton, and gymnastics, our curriculum ensures that every student has the opportunity to try new things, build confidence, and develop a wide range of physical skills.

We also focus on key areas such as healthy living, fitness, and mental well-being, ensuring that students leave school with a solid understanding of the importance of staying active, healthy, and mentally strong.

Through PE, students learn the value of hard work, resilience, and teamwork, and they experience the benefits of regular physical activity for their physical and mental health. Our inclusive approach ensures that all students, regardless of ability, feel supported and encouraged to do their best.

GCSE Physical Education

For students who are passionate about sport and physical activity, the GCSE PE course offers an in-depth look at the theory and practice of physical education. This course covers both practical and theoretical components, giving students the chance to study sports science, physiology, psychology, and the socio-cultural impact of sport, all while developing their practical skills in a range of physical activities.

The GCSE PE course is designed for students who want to deepen their understanding of how the body works, how to optimise performance, and how physical activity can benefit overall health. The course also offers opportunities for students to apply their knowledge in practical situations, from developing training plans to analysing sports performance.

From competitive sports teams to non-competitive fitness clubs, there's something for everyone.
