Essential Equipment for Learning

Helping Your Child Be Ready to Learn

At Old Buckenham High School, we believe that being well-prepared is the first step to successful learning. Coming to school with the right equipment every day helps students stay focused, organised, and ready to get the most out of their lessons.

We ask that all pupils arrive each day with the following essential items, kept neatly in a pencil case:

Essential Equipment List

Please ensure your child has the following each day:

• A pen (blue or black) — plus a spare
• A pencil
• A pencil sharpener
• A rubber
• A whiteboard pen (please note: this should not be a permanent marker)
• A ruler
• A scientific calculator

All equipment must be stored in a pencil case. Pupils should not carry loose items in their blazer pockets for health and safety reasons.

Optional (but useful) Extras

The following items are not essential but can be useful, particularly in certain subjects:

• Colouring pencils
• Compass
• Protractor
• Highlighter pens

Need Support with Equipment?

We understand that some families may find it difficult to supply this equipment, and we’re here to help.

If your child is eligible for Free School Meals, we can provide this essential equipment free of charge.

If you are experiencing financial difficulties for any other reason, please contact your child’s form tutor. We will always work with you to ensure that your child has what they need to succeed.

Having the right tools for learning not only helps students stay organised, but also builds confidence and a sense of pride in being ready for school.
